Parent Meeting In November
Parent Meeting….   It´s definitely a family affair when it comes to college admissions. VISTA works very hard to be inclusive and open to families. Parents know that they can drop by any time during program hours to sit-in, discuss issues with staff about their student, and more important just share some down time with VISTA staff.

Baylor University Trip
“Thanks” to the collaboration of one of our senior VISTA partners (BCFS/DFL) for allowing us the usage of their vans for the day trip to enjoy the sights and sounds of a true outstanding campus. Several of our juniors attended the trip where they were treated to free tee shirts along with lunch on the Baylor Campus. This was the first time for many to be on a college campus and to be treated like college freshmen. The group also stopped in Georgetown, Texas about thirty minutes from Austin, Texas and toured Southwestern University. Southwestern is considered by many a hidden jewel among Texas Universities. This trip was also a welcome collaboration with the LULAC Youth Group that meets at the Guadalupe Street Coffee House (GSCH) on Monday evenings. The group then traveled on to Lockhart, Texas where the students and staff all enjoyed the hospitality of Black´s Family owned Bar-B-Q restaurant before returning home. We really want to say "thanks" to all the kids and parents, as they had to be up at 4:30 a.m. in order to make the trip that day. VISTA could not have done it without you!

The VISTA program would just like to say “thank you” to Arts San Antonio for allowing 25 students, parents, and sponsors to enjoy a night at the ballet that they will never forget. A sincere“Thank you” for allowing these students an opportunity to experience an art that is truly associated with the Christmas Season and known as a timeless tradition. Your kind donation allowed these students a rare treat. In this one act of genuine kindness you helped inspire a thirst within these students for more experiences such as the ballet. I invite you to visit the VISTA website as this is just a small token of our appreciation for this opportunity to enjoy one of the best ballet troupe’s in the world, Moscow Classical Ballet in their performance of The Nutcracker. VISTA’s “Christmas Wish” was made possible by several Angels…

Bells, Harps, and a Jingle …

Trinity Winter Concert on Nov. 1, 2007 was the first winter event for the VISTA students. As we were already in the area the students made their way over to Incarnate Word University to enjoy the holiday lights as it is a tradition with the campus each year. Although, limited, the students enjoyed a walking tour of both campuses and discussed the difference between the two over a Starbucks latte.

New Cultrual Identity Class Offered at Vista
New Cultrual Identity Class   Collaboration and vision… As these ladies were very busy in their studies at the University of Texas at San Antonio, they still found time in their busy schedules to teach a class during the Christmas break for VISTA. Their excitement of the mission of VISTA made it easy to say “yes” to the program. These two UTSA doctoral candidates are creating a Cultural Identity curriculum for Vista students. Ms. Salazar and Ms. Guzman will continue in 2008 in helping VISTA students expand their knowledge in regards to their Cultural Identity and history. It is VISTA’s belief that the latter is necessary as students set their sights on attending universities throughout the United States and leave their comfort zones behind. In doing so, students are reminded they have a responsibility to the others that follow. And to the ones who believed in them as many community volunteers, professionals, staff, and parents volunteered their time for them as they made their way towards their college dreams.

I am a success today because I had a friend who believed in me and I didn´t have the heart to let him down...
